... the UK are cut or absolute minimum so that's a complication on other counts. Your wife is a nurse as is mine but we moved over just in time for the recruitment freeze in the HSE so the 5 new operating suites @ Portiuncula Hospital that should have been a prime employment opportunity for a theatre nurse didn't pan out that WAy. Chris is currently working in a nursery and worked in a national school as an intern last year. There are nursing opportunities but seeking them out before you move might be wise? To work in Ireland you need a PPS number which is a ...

Just thought of another tip re: US cell phone number. When I WAs in the US I had T-Mobile with the plan where I can touch down pretty much in any major country around the world and text US numbers for free (i.e. part of my regular bill, doesn't cost me extra) and use unlimited 3G internet. I WAs relying on this when I landed in Dublin since it took me a bit to get a SIM card (my iPhone WAsn't unlocked ugh). So I WAs delaying cancelling my T-Mobile plan, for my US number, until I had updated all of my online accounts for my new Ireland phone number. Probl ...

My apologies if this is not the correct place to ask this question, but is ordering from Amazon or Amazon UK (or similar sites) just as Simple as putting in your street address upon check out? Do they deliver packages directly to a home, or do you get a notification to pick it up at the Post Office?

Hi Kevin, have you read this post on the blog? Dealing with Electronics and relocation A Simple plug adapter will work for a lot of items - e.g most computers, phones, cameras etc. The bigger stuff probably should be left behind, or else you'll need to have a heavy duty converter hooked up to everything. Check the electrical info on the device/appliance you're hoping to bring to see if it's rated for the Irish system.

... as proof of address. So the employer letter should get you a PPS number (worked for me and my flatmate), then the Welfare office will mail you a letter with your PPS number on it and voila, you have official government correspondence with your address on it. The GNIB website says something about visiting other offices so I think that is possible. Should just check the website before booking! My boxes were here in a flash. I hadn't even moved into my permanent apartment when they arrived. My friend from Singapore has been WAiting for her shipment of stuff ...

... is. It's experiences from people like you, me and countless others, which can really be far more useful than legal advice IMO. Proof of address - that info is really helpful. The banks can be really difficult to deal with on this issue. Do you mind us asking which bank accepted this info? Over the phone PPS - weird huh?! They gave me all 3 of my kids details over the phone. A little less secure than I'd like, but handy none-the-less 🙂 GNIB appointment - yes, I've heard it's difficult to get an appointment, however if you live outside Dublin, it's meant t ...

About us: I'm a 31 year old machinist (with a side of mechanical design and engineering) specializing i. The Set up, programming and operation of computer controlled machining centers. Her: 35 year old mother of 3 and homemaker, with a drop dead gorgeous smile and the best sense of humor I've ever known. Also a dual UK and Irish citizen. The information I am hoping to finf is related to marriage and immigration. Specifi ...

Electrical Appliances: Hi All, As I sort out what to take and what to give away before packing the 20 ft. container I hope to fill, I am curious about what electrical appliances I should/could take. Does anyone know what it would take to take, say, a printer, record player, etc and adapt them for use in Ireland? I know that a Simple adaptor plug won't work but if there's a feasible WAy of doing it without rewiring the house I'd be interested. Thanks Kevin

Permission to Remain in Ireland as the spouse of an Irish National

Hi, I just discovered this forum and I am really encouraged by everyones stories. I am an Irish man living in the US and planning on marrying my american girlfriend (soon to be fiance). We have both discussed the possibility of relocating to Ireland permanently and may do so in the next year or two. What I am curious about is, when presenting proof of address, would a Simple mobile phone bill suffice? We are likely to be pretty skint initially so staying with my family would be sounder financially for the first few months than renting somewhere. Any help will be appreciated. Liam

If you get nowhere with your car insurance company you might WAnt to take a look at this The financial services ombudsman handles unresolved disputes. I can't imagine a car insurance company letting something Simple like this go that far though.
