hi everyone!
i really could use some advice regarding school transfers from usa to northern ireland / county down area. i have a 16 year old, homeschooled for grade 9 and 10- she is currently making up credits to continue on to 11th grade- (credits are used i guess like points) how are kids that transfer able to get into a secondary school, when so many of the schools advance kids from their prior primary school.? seems like there has to be a special connection to apply-
from what i have read- there are many types of secondary schools- how do we choose? i have read that different schools offer different subjects , career choices, some special areas of study etc...
are the grades equivalent? she is 16, and should be going into 11th grade ( in the usa)
example in the usa- by the time a child reaches 11th grade- that child should have accumulated at least 12 credits, thats all the basic math, english, history, gym and science etc...
how do usa credits apply to school in northern ireland/ireland?
will my teen have to take a entry level test/ tests?
if she takes the tests, what if she isnt accepted at school? or we move before being accepted to a certain school? or we arent able to be there at the start of the school year?
i could go on with the questions.. maybe we should start here... thank you
... reader here WAs able to apply from Canada. See here
@rose can you share any more Info on this for us? A picture of the letter you received would be great!
Also @jaconaty1 WAs one of more recent applicants. Maybe you too can shed some more light on your situation Jeanine?
Russ, having spoke with numerous applicants over the last number of years, most said hiring an attorney wouldn’t really have helped their situation. The process mostly involves a lot of document/evidence gathering, which you will do yourself anyway.

Proof of address - that Info is really helpful. The banks can be really difficult to deal with on this issue. Do you mind us asking which bank accepted this Info?
Over the phone PPS - weird huh?! They gave me all 3 of my kids details over the phone. A little less secure than I'd like, but handy none-the-less 🙂
GNIB appointment - yes, I've heard it's difficult to get an appointment, however if you live outside Dublin, it's meant t ...
Karen - i WAs in touch with someone some time ago about taking their dog by sea. They sailed from the US. Check out their story and Info on this page.
There is another person a couple of months away from moving who is also taking their dog by sea. Flying to the UK and then sailing from their to Dublin. Let me see if I can get some Info from him.

Hi Kate (@katemreagan)- sorry to hear you've hit a stumbling block.
Actually I just posted something about this the other day. The Info is for spouses of Irish citizens, but I'm guessing it'd be similar/same for EU citizens too.
I'm not sure if your husband is automatically entitled to join you in Ireland, but I think for the most part there's usually no problem. Check out this Info.
thanks for the Info! Best wishes.
thanks for the Info!
Hey Jane, we're happy to help 🙂
"Please forgive my ignorance but can we marry in the US while he is visiting and then go back to Ireland together and then go through everything we need to do there?" Absolutely yes! Provided the marriage in the US is legal, and legal recognized 🙂 There are other topics on the forum about this. I suggest searching for them for more Info.
Remember, proving the legitimacy of your marriage is key. I don't doubt it, but you have to prove to the Irish authorities, that everything is above board. The requirements are outlined on various websites, the best/more authoritative being INIS, Citizens Info
Welcome to the site 🙂 Be sure to update us as new Info arises. Always looking for new Info, new situations etc...
Reach out with new questions as they come up

Hi Bill and welcome to the site,
You're not the only one who has researched moving due to a certain someone 🙂
Much of our Stamp 4 discussion has been on this page, however based on the Info you provided I doubt you would be on that Stamp. It's typically reserved for the spouse/partner of an Irish or EU citizen. More Info here
I'd suggest reading this permit Info too
Generally the spouse of a work permit holder cannot take up employment, on the basis of the spouse having the permit. But there are exceptions e.g. the spouse employment permit for Critical skills employment permit holders. Definitely read the Info at the links above. I think you'll find a lot of answers there.
Happy to help as questions come up...
Liam
