... can always post the Info on this site in case others may be interested. Just curious, where in the US did you move from and what drew you to Co Kerry to reside in? One final question, the INIS website recommends providing proof of income for 6 months, so did you follow that guideline? I'm a little unsure about timing and selling my house, etc. So, if I retire in March 2021, then I should WAit until Sept 2021 to show 6 months of my income during retirement (know that it must equate to matching the annual 50,000 euro min requirement). Am I understanding t ...

@jaconaty1 Hi Jeanine - thanks for your note and helpful Info! I'm finding as the further I dig the more questions that pop up, so I really appreciate input from those who've gone through the process. I'm interested in learning more about how you navigated the learners permit journey on your own, so I'd enjoy chatting directly (if that's permitted on this site - not sure if adding email addresses within a message is acceptable??). Thanks again! John

Thanks again, Liam! Great Info, I have been to the English Market and loved it. My Grandfather came over from the Cullen/Millstreet area back in the 1920s, so the area suits me pretty well. 🙂

I forgot to comment on the driver's license. You probably already know about the license exchange fiasco, right? Basically, you are treated as a new driver. People from some countries can exchange their license for an Irish one, but not US license holders. You have to sit the test, AND take driving lessons. I have some Info here It's a little old, but mostly (if not all) still correct. You can drive for up to one year on your US license. Definitely get on the Irish license Asap. It can take a while to get an appnt, and the failure rate for the test is quite high, so a re-do is often required. Like everything else right now, Covid is probably playing havoc on this type of thing. Being a Seattle resident, any chance you can get a license over the border? B.C. Canada is one of the eligible licenses for a straight up exchange.

Are scholarships available for overseas students studying in Ireland?

I received this question today from an American student hoping to spend a couple of years in Ireland pursing her post-graduate degree. While the Information I shared back to her WAs specific to post-grad work, there are also scholarships available for undergraduate courses. It appears each college administers their own scholarship program separate to the other colleges and universities. I’m hopeful that that means you can apply to more than one scholarship program at any one time. (if someone knows otherwise please let us know). What are the scholar ...

... option right now for getting help re: Covid issues. It's pricey though! I've moved dogs with their help in the past, and by doing all the work myself. If you can still do it without their help (some airlines insist you use them), then it can be a fraction of the cost. Did Aer Lingus give you all the requirements? E.g crate size, when/where to show up etc? It has always been the case when I flew with dogs, that you can only book them on the flight, approx 2 weeks before departure. Unfortunately it adds a little stress to the situation, because you have to ...

... to find an international freight company that would accommodate our personally-owned, self-loaded container. We found Aaltonen international Moving and Storage here in Cork to shepherd our container off the ship, through customs, and to the farm. Working with Kim McEvoy of Aaltonen has been a joy. In the US, we worked with Sky2C to arrange container pick-up, delivery to port, and transport via container ship. I submitted multiple requests for quotes to international shipping companies in May - lousy time - and they were the only company who responded. I ...
