... or immigration advice nor should it be solely relied upon for your own move, it's just a nice starting point for considerations to make if you are someone in a similar situation. About me: - I had a job lined up before moving to Dublin. My work permit WAs applied for and approved while I WAs in the US. It WAs sponsored by my new employer.- I live a minimalist lifestyle. I did not need contents relocation (someone shows up, packs your stuff, puts it in a shipping container, and delivers to you in Ireland). I WAs moving via checked/excess luggage and mailing ...

Were those the standard square pallets or the long rectangular ones? How do you figure the space you used would compare to a 20 foot shipping container? (5.598mx2.325mx2.39m / 19'4"x7"8'x7'10" Interior dimensions)

... via Cunard in 1955. When I asked what the luggage allowance WAs I WAs told - whatever you can fit in your stateroom. When my father made the journey each family member had a large steamer trunk that could be stood on end and used as a WArdrobe. Electronics - while the prices are higher in general in Ireland, you have to balance that with the cost of adapters/inverters. Most outlets are 220v in Ireland. Unless you WAnt Many electronics will switch between them with a toggle of a switch and changing the cable. Some will do so just changing the cable. F ...

Hello everyone! My name is Pat and I am relocating from Northern California. With a name like Pat Egan, I am certain that you will see that I am of Irish descent. Other family names include Comerford, Daw, and Kenneally. Most recent relative WAs my great grandmother, Margaret Comerford, from Co Tipperary. I cannot apply via Irish descent because law allows only children and grandchildren to take that approach. I have already submitted my Stamp 0 application via a solicitor. An Irish CFA prepared my financial application. I wrote a personal statement and pr ...

Hi Liam and thank you for the great site 🙂 My wife and I are planning to move to Dublin in the next few months from the UK as British Citizens to escape the madness of Brexit. I'm really looking for anyone's experience of finding the their Apartment/house and how to deal with landlords. Specifically I would like to know how people initially pay for a deposit, ie Cash/Bank transfer etc. I'm in the process of setting up a KBC Basic Current account for direct debits, standing orders etc but I can't find any solid information on how deposits/up front rent is normally paid. Would I be expected when looking for an Apartment to be carry 4000 euros in cash? Many Thanks Giles

Just thought of another tip re: US cell phone number. When I WAs in the US I had T-Mobile with the plan where I can touch down pretty much in any major country around the world and text US numbers for free (i.e. part of my regular bill, doesn't cost me extra) and use unlimited 3G internet. I WAs relying on this when I landed in Dublin since it took me a bit to get a SIM card (my iPhone WAsn't unlocked ugh). So I WAs delaying cancelling my T-Mobile plan, for my US number, until I had updated all of my online accounts for my new Ireland phone number. Probl ...

Hi Patty! I recommend using a pet relocation service to bring your dogs back and forth. It is very expensive, but I would hate to make mistakes along the WAy because I missed something. I live in California and am using a a pet relocation service based out of Colorado (a referral from a friend). I'm relocating two cats and it is about $4,000 total for me to move them. That's inclusive of their flights, relocation service fees, and customs fees. I've spent another $400 on brand new airline approved crates and vet visits. My situation is particularly expensive ...

... he WAs about 8, that age where you're into summer sports, summer school and that age where you don't WAnt to leave your friends. He didn't go back till he WAs 17. And only his mom would go back every other year. I would agree with you regarding better chance at education in Ireland (not just the cost) and more opportunities in the state after graduating. In general, I feel you'll have more opportunities if you have dual citizen. Cfingan did bring up a good point about Ireland growing their own tech bubble, main part why Irish economy is growing. That's ...

Hello Liam and everyone, My situation is a little tricky and I WAs hoping for some help if possible! My husband and I currently live in New York, and his company might have him move to Ireland for 6 months to work in their Ireland office. His company is setting him/us up in housing that we won't have to pay for, so we would potentially still be paying rent on the lease of our Apartment back in New York to keep it. I am currently self-employed doing remote work (and may be doing full-time remote work for a New York-based company in the next month or so). I ...
