Hello Sprockets
Landlords generally do ask for references before they will rent out a place to you. Some may be Open to exploring other options e.g. US credit history (score), mortgage payment history, multi-month deposit, bank account statement etc. I don't think it should be necessary to show them your entire financial information.
My advice is ask them what they will consider in lieu of references, with an explanation of your situation.

... difficult. I have no bank statements. I WAnt to Open a bank account in Ireland badly, but they also WAnt proof of address. I've been in contact and they've told me they will not accept a statement from the family I live with (Even though when I messaged the immigration bureau, and they suggested trying that.) I have no rental agreements, utility bills, and I'm not part of an au pair agency.
All I have to go on right Now is this:
The immigration bureau sent me an e-mail stating that they have my irish address on record attached to my GNIB. (So, I wonder i ...
... to give notice (you have to give 3 months notice in Ireland before the marriage date). We then had to have an interview as he is a non EU national. The lady in the office WAs very accommodating and booked us in just a week before our marriage date so we could ensure both of us would be in Ireland. We were interviewed separately, asked about our relationship, our families, jobs and plans for the future together etc. It WAs a little intimidating but they are essentially making a judgement that your relationship is real...so we passed!
We then were married on ...
BOI have an option to Open an account from overseas
Not so sure about healthcare, but I'm pretty certain that to take out a policy from an Irish company, you will need proof of residency.
Hey Sara,
Welcome 🙂 Nice to have you here.
I gotta be honest... your question is kind of Open ended, and not something that is easy to give advice on, only encouragement. I'd say go for it! Start saving, and make it work 🙂
Best,

Hello! I am from London (Essex really!!) But my Dad WAs from Cork and my Mum from Derry. I really WAnt to one day in the not too distant future move to Ireland. I wonder if this is even possible. I am an Artist and saving up to find a studio/house or buisness cafe/ pop up gallery or any thing I can either renovate or work or live in and convert a building into. I would appreciate any advise on what would be the possibility of this dream? And even better if its by the sea or the mountains, anywhere in Ireland!
I also have an Artist friend in Egypt who wou ...
@lindarosewood- again, wow! Thanks for a very helpful post. Helps me with my planning a great deal.
I don't WAnt to hijack the thread, but I would be QUITE interested if you could Open another discussing your experience with your immigration solicitor - to let everyone know how he/she is helping and the kinds of things we should be looking for if we decide to engage one as well.
Thanks again - you're awesome!
I think in this case Felicia your partner would need to check first with the landlord or agent handling the tenancy agreement if its possible and smooth to add you to the tenancy agreement. In Ireland your tenancy agreement is registered to the residential tenancies board. Which makes your tenancy agreement more legal and even sufficient to act as proof of address to Open a Irish bank account. I suggest your partner asks about it with your landlord or agent.
... a program in place to allow you to Open one from overseas.
The issue of investments is a little more complicated e.g. are you planning to bring 401k funds, do you WAnt to set up a retirement account in Ireland etc... There are plenty of investment companies. None that I personally recommend, but one of the major ones is Irish Life. I'd recommend you read this info also,
If you think you might ever WAnt to return to live in the US on your own then you should definitely apply for US citizenship as that would be a sure guarantee you could. If you think you would only go back to the US with your spouse then the decision to become a USC is not so clearcut as you have a ticket back into the US by virtue of marriage to a US citizen . Before deciding, you should be aware that living as a US citizen outside of the US can be burdensome and costly in time and or fees, and heaven help you if you fail to file the correct form and the IR ...
