... Things that "keep me Up at night" which I will be searching the forum for discussions of (if anyone WAnts to link me to good threads feel free!): - I've been looking for studios or roommates on rent.ie and daft.ie but won't really be able to get to much into it until I arrive. I am having my two cats flown out to me (using a pet relocator) after I've secured an apartment. Wondering how much trouble I will have finding pet friendly apartments? Lots of these website don't even have a search filter for "pet friendly". - Airlines - I'm a big fan of accumula ...

Hi Dee, thanks for the Update. Sorry if I misled you. I WAs assuming you were going Down the stamp 0 route. I'd love to hear more about the long-term visa for family. You were the first person here I have encountered who is going Down this route. I would really appreciate if you kept us Up-to-date on the process and your progress for your mom. I wish you the very best of luck and success

Marrying an Irish Citizen as a non-EU Citizen

Good afternoon everyone! I WAnt to share my experience, and perhaps get some input from others, of the process of getting married to an Irish Citizen as a non-EU Citizen (in my case, I'm American). This is a lengthy post, and a lengthy process. So, here we go! Ireland requires a three month advance notification to your local Civil Service Registration office. This notice can be done online here: Civil Registration Service You put in your name, some other basic info, and choose a date/time in which you will meet the Registrar. When you make the appointment ...

Not unusual for a property that has been on the market for some time to be with 2 auctioneers especially if its a rural property there must be half a dozen within a 20 mile radius of here. Thing is that until someone puts Down a deposit as a commitment to buy then the property is on the market. If you have the funds to put Down then commitment to buy to completion of sale can be really fast. You need to get a solicitor involved just before you commit to buy. There are far fewer cowboy auctioneers than there were when we were moving over 10 years ago.

... - after a recent trip back home, my wife (English) has had an Epiphany of sorts and after plenty of discussions over the last week or more, we've concluded as much as we can that perhaps moving home might not be a bad idea after all for our kids and overall quality of life. Given the amount of space we have for our buck in the South East (small detached house) of England we're looking at options around Galway and buck for buck Ireland wins hands Down - nevermind the quality and pace of life back home it looks on the surface as a decent idea. I have a job ...

... It's a midway point for us between Carlow and Little Island, and if I decide to stay home then it is not too far for Joe to commute Down to Little Island. There are quite a few schools in Clonmel so I'll take your advice and start contacting them now. We really WAnt them in a national or Gaelscoil school, not an independent. Time to get added to the list.

Thank you, Kevin. This is very important information, and I appreciate your sharing. I am 70 years old with a nasty Medicare situation. Bottom line: Have you ever heard of IRMAA? Neither had I. Don't ask. Senator Dianne Feinstein's staff had EVERYTHING worked out . . . I thought. Anyway, I will withdraw from Part B, Part D, and Supplemental Plan F, retaining Part A. Due to timing issues around extricating myself from IRMAA and starting IE insurance, I am going with Cigna Global. My sister has an insurance broker's license in CA. She said just get something in place and switch to something less expensive once I get to IE. If the US government were to try to encourage people to leave the country, the IRMAA would surely be effective. Many have written editorials about health care in the US. It seems to me that we can do better in IE and probably other countries. Medicare advocacy efforts to add dental, vision, hearing, and compression garments for lymphedema patients have gone Up/down but, most recent attempt, only hearing made it to the bill passed by the House. We shall see what happens in the Senate. THANK YOU for your message. I truly appreciate reading about some light at the end of the Medicare tunnel. Onward! Pat Egan

@vgupta_dub_2017 Hello Vineet I don't like to quote fees, especially when there can be a range of variables in services needed. My experience with Alan Lawlor WAs that his fees were reasonable for the level of work needed. He WAs responsive, asked reasonable questions about retirement investment differences between IE and US, and worked well with my US investment manager (CFP). His financial presentation met the requirements for the Stamp 0 application, and my solicitor found everything in order, compatible with overall application. At the end of the day ...

@demsee Yes there were. However perhaps they were all registered as ESA's? Perhaps they aren't allowing animals unless it's through a loop hole like that. If so, then they would have to fly them in the cargo which I believe they said only goes once a week. I haven't checked in with the other airlines recently though to see if they have restarted flying animals. Hopefully as the pandemic winds Down, we can get back to things as normal. I think there were a couple other airlines flying animals though in the thick of the pandemic when I came, so hopefully a few more are flying them.

@redhead Curious as to how the 40' container shipping went. After many delays, I am hoping my home in West Cork will be ready by 2022; thus, I anticipate shipping a 40' container over at some point during the next year. I don't expect to get the 40' container all the WAy Down to West Cork (unless by barge, LOL). But wondering how you managed: how long WAs the process; and how WAs the unloading on the Irish side. I am hoping to do a self-pack on this end to save money, and I suppose I'll have to hire movers on the Irish side to do something similar as t ...
