Good morning US folks & good afternoon Irish folks! My wife and I decided that now is the time to make the move to Ireland. She is an Irish citizen (with dual citizenship, living in the US currently) and we just got done with a 2-month stay in Ireland that WAs absolutely incredible. It gave me the perspective I need to realize that the life we WAnt to live is easiest to do in Ireland and it's frankly not even a close comparison. With not having to pay $800/month in US health insurance costs + the children's allowance + cheaper rent for bigger homes ( ...

... as residency. We’re moving because we can save so much money by doing so (mainly by not having to pay for American health insurance!) and live the life we really WAnt, which is me working & my wife staying home with our kids. I’m here to try and get answers to the questions I have about working remotely for my current company in the US & what that entails. I’m glad this forum exists & hope to gain a lot of Info & help out as I learn more about the process!

We are in the planning stages of moving from Texas to Cork. There are some things that I really can't do without, one of them is my car collection, which WAsn't a huge deal as far as one time costs like shipping and all of that...but then I got to the annual registration costs, which are frankly not too clear, but have me concerned. I have 2 primary daily drivers 2018 Corvette with a 6.2 liter engine 1978 Rolls Royce with a 6.75 liter engine If I'm understanding the small bit of Info I have found on this topic, it looks like I'll be paying several thous ...

I get this question all the time from readers and clients. Most recently while talking with one of my Let's Talk clients last week. Not too long ago (~2- 3 years or so) this WAsn't possible to do. Or at the very least it WAs really difficult. Now, Bank of Ireland do offer this service to overseas clients. It helps to get your account set up ahead of time for so many reasons - think currency transfer! So what will you need to do: BOI require that you get in touch with them through one of a variety of WAys. You can get in touch via phone, Facetime, or even ...

... this is a huge plus for those of you looking to arrive in Ireland and begin working immediately. Previously, people could be WAiting 6 months or more before they could restart their lives. INIS Info on that here: And even more great news WAs in the media this week. If a proposed change by Minister for Justice, Charlie Flanagan, is implemented, applicants for Irish citizenship should be able to leave the country for short periods of time while their application is pending. Full details are still being fleshed out. The Irish Times news article on this topic ...

... Since Rose WAs successful gaining approval of her financials without an Irish accountant certification, we tried to copy her approach since our pension income statements have a similar government certification. Didn’t work....guessing it just depends on which reviewer you get. But the good news is that the accountant certification is the only outstanding item. In terms of our police report, we had requested the County Sheriff run a background check. The State Police required fingerprints and it just seemed like a lot of work. My suggestion just l ...

Foreign (US) Driving Licence & Irish Licence Process

So, after reading various articles and the new rules regarding the reduction in required driving lessons (6 vs 12, with the possible caveat for insurance discounts after 12 lessons), I'm still unclear on one thing. Will you be asked to hand over your U.S. Driving Licence when applying for the Learner's Permit? Can you get away with driving without a 'licenced companion' as long as you still have your U.S. licence and are still within the 12-month visitation period? About the clearest Info I've seen on this is that it is a "grey area", but it would be nearly impossible if you have to hand over your foreign driving licence. Is there anyone with recent experience that can comment on the process? Thanks!-Mike

... that I'm hoping you'll be able to help with. I'm a New Zealander and my wife (of one year) has dual Irish/UK citizenship. We're planning on relocating to Ireland in a few months to live and work. As I understand it, the process for me will look like this: Arrive in Ireland with my wife (eg. fly into Dublin) Tell the customs official at the border that I intend to stay as the spouse of an Irish citizen (which means I should get a 90 day visa) As soon as possible, head to a local garda along with my wife (ideally make an appointment in advance)v Bring ...
