I no longer live in Cork, Zelimir. Housing all over Ireland has been a Hot topic in recent years. Availability of rentals and houses to buy has been low, and of course prices have risen too. Have you been in touch with any letting agencies and/or real estate agents? It might be good to start getting in touch with those types of people early to give yourself the best chance at finding something that suits your needs.
So, because we can't seem to manage going ONE DAY without a Hot mess, my husband had a minor car accident. He WAs in stopped rush hour traffic, in his lane, and a motorcycle weaving in and out of lanes hit him. Again, he WAs stopped. Garda arrives, the motorcyclist claims he has no memory of what happened. He is fine, mind you. The rear bumper of my screaming Japanese car is not. Tail light knocked out, as well. Garda took the report, everyone went on their WAy.
Husband immediately phones our insurance. They instruct him it's up to the motorcyclist' ...
Interesting question today from new forum member @westfamily722 today. Are there home schooling options in Ireland?
I haven't spent a ton of time on this as of yet, but from my initial research it is not anything like the US System, whereby parents can home-school their kids, without a whole lot of restrictions. The Irish System seems to be very much on an as-needed basis i.e. special education needs, medical grounds, maternity related needs.
I'll look into this in more detail, but for now, here's the official info/link and application details.
Please add to this topic if you find more relevant info.
As a hospital "regular" I can confirm some problems such as long WAiting lists overcrowding in A&E and the 2 tier System of private v medical card. I can not compare Irish to US health care but I can compare Irish to UK.
The Irish System is good and as Liam has indicated the cost of insurance is reasonable value for money. I am on the medical card scheme so my WAiting times are longer than private patients, I do not have access to the same hospitals so a procedure that could have been done "private" within a couple of months in Galway just 30 miles aw ...
Hi Guys,
I WAs wondering regarding the "Transfer of residence".
If for example we have 2 cars to import, will it be a problem at customs, regarding the tax relief ? I mean one car is mine and one is my wife's do we submit 2x 1076 ?
Furthermore if you have 2 x 1076 and we are 3 persons for the list of things do we have to make 3 lists or just one big list with belongings.
Another thing is regarding the evaluation of you personal belongings. I mean how do you do it, you can put a value on things thinking how much you would get if you sell them but that is di ...
also - the home tuition scheme is actually where the school System will pay a qualified teacher to come to your home and provide teaching to your child. It is hard to qualify for, and seems to be harder to find a qualified teacher who can do it. But, it's theoretically a great options for some families.
They will deliver directly to your home.
Also, Ireland recently adopted a postal code System. Every house in the country has a unique postal code that you can use.
Hi Kevin, have you read this post on the blog? Dealing with Electronics and relocation
A simple plug adapter will work for a lot of items - e.g most computers, phones, cameras etc. The bigger stuff probably should be left behind, or else you'll need to have a heavy duty converter hooked up to everything. Check the electrical info on the device/appliance you're hoping to bring to see if it's rated for the Irish System.
Thanks so much Liam
Yes it seems to be when you are in the Tax System here you're in whether you reside here or not. My Greencard expires next year so I think I may as well apply for citizenship if we're going to have to continue to file for my husband anyways. We may hop back across the Atlantic to retire - who knows? It's good to have options. Thanks for the referral - happy to go through your link. This is the first of what I'm sure will be many questions!
