Putting US husband on my lease.. Is it necessary?

Hi All, My husband who is a US citizen will be moving to Ireland in the next couple of months to live with me (irish citizen) . In Order for him to register, get a stamp 4 and GNIB card it says that we must have proof of place of residence. I'm wondering if my lease will be sufficient or is it necessary to have his name added to the lease before he even enters the country. Thank you in advance.

Hi Mairead, I noticed that you wrote this post a while ago, but I'm interested in how you got on, because I'm now in the same situation. WAs the process smooth for you? Also; how were you able to provide evidence of a joint address? I thought that in Order to open a bank account, you have to be a resident in Ireland. Sorry for so many questions. Would really appreciate any info/experience you've had. Tara

Flooding

... sit right on top of rivers, or near a WAtershed and there's usually a pretty even mix of businesses and residences. A lot of time these rivers are very high to begin with, so when there's a big storm like the one that just passed, there's only one place for the extra WAter to go. Also, a lot of the farmland that WAs affected is very low lying, so when a large river floods it spreads out pretty fast. I think the problem with one towns flood protection having a negative affect on another town is very likely. I remember seeing similar things in CA with coasta ...

... here, listen to those people and still love it, then theirs no question. Now we moved up to the most beautiful county, Donegal and are loving life. The free pre school, is brilliant and works perfectly well. And now under 6s get free gp health care. My employer also gives us free private insurance. Schools are also great here. We picked up and left because we were sick of planning. If you love Ireland, if Ireland is compatible with your situation and if the U.S Is not, then that's all there is to it. Maybe look at relocating somewhere cheap like Donegal fo ...

Hello Liam and everyone, My situation is a little tricky and I WAs hoping for some help if possible! My husband and I currently live in New York, and his company might have him move to Ireland for 6 months to work in their Ireland office. His company is setting him/us up in housing that we won't have to pay for, so we would potentially still be paying rent on the lease of our apartment back in New York to keep it. I am currently self-employed doing remote work (and may be doing full-time remote work for a New York-based company in the next month or so). I ...

Hi Melissa, With regard to #2, be sure to have them give you the longest timestamp possible when coming in as a tourist. I know of cases where they'll ask how long you plan to stay and stamp it for exactly that amount of time. If the person before you is staying 2 weeks, you don't WAnt that stamped on your passport. You'll need plenty of time after you do marry to get everything in Order to send for residency status. I hope someone else can chime in on your other questions. I don't have personal experience with it. Liam

Hi Jo Maybe the repatriation division of the INIS are the right people to contact. Wouldn't a deportation Order have an expiration on it? Does he have whatever paperwork WAs given at the time? If you can't get answers from the INIS or the GNIB, I'd suggest contacting a solicitor in Ireland. Best of luck with it! Liam

... insensitive phrase, but I don't know what else it's called). Are these types of weddings considered 'sham' even though in many cases, they are long lasting. Or arranged marriages. It WAsn't unheard of in Ireland up until recent decades, particularly in rural areas, for marriages to be arranged in some fashion or another. Not for you to answer obviously, I'm just thinking out loud.

Not every solicitor will demand a consultation fee in Order to answer a few immigration questions but most do require it. Different from the US where an attorney WAnts to sell YOU their expertise before money is exchanged. How do you know if the solicitor is any good unless you speak with them beforehand? This is just one of the many differences been doing business in Ireland vs. the US. Would a job seeker ask for payment from the company before an interview? That's kinda the right analogy. Anyway, Stamp 0 is a pretty esoteric process and I doubt an immigra ...

@vgupta_dub_2017 Hello Vineet I don't like to quote fees, especially when there can be a range of variables in services needed. My experience with Alan Lawlor WAs that his fees were reasonable for the level of work needed. He WAs responsive, asked reasonable questions about retirement investment differences between IE and US, and worked well with my US investment manager (CFP). His financial presentation met the requirements for the Stamp 0 application, and my solicitor found everything in Order, compatible with overall application. At the end of the day ...
