Susan, those are good questions that may not have a written policy for. You may know that Ireland is not part of Shenghen Area so the Shenghen 90 days every 180 days does not apply to Irish tourism. It appears that there are no precise rules only guidelines but I am certain that you will not be able to stay in Ireland under a non-visa visitation for more than 90 days in followed by 90 days out. Could be less if the immigration agent at the airport believes that you are possibly trying to retire to Ireland. They can stamp your passport with less than 90 day stays if they so desire. They have this power. They also have the power to turn you around and prohibit you from entering the country. Please travel to Ireland with documents confirming your ties to Canada and your ability to cover your expenses while in Ireland, This would include proof of Canadian residence, proof of sufficient means (current bank statements) and proof of Canadian employment if you have it. I would not expect these rules to be changed any time soon. Good luck.
... required I drive them a few miles back and forth. Besides that, I had to get to and from various activities, get groceries, etc. I had been driving a long time (many years), and knew I WAs not a danger to anyone on the road. I believe the whole point of having someone licensed in the car, is because of exactly that. Young drivers, who are learning their WAy, are not the safest (the stats are there to prove so). There WAs no practical WAy I could have a licensed driver with me at all times. I decided to chance it, and if I ever had the pleasure of being pul ...
... a cool spot to live and then worrying about the job as I am fortunate enough to have worked in tech over here is Seattle for a few years and have some saved up. Have been reading up on Different Areas, but curious to know what this forum thinks - would like to live in an Area with WAlking, hiking, access to good local produce and meats and some great restaurants, coffee and international food shops?
I figure I'm probably looking at one of the big three cities for those reasons, but if there is an outskirt to look at, would love to hear about it.
Also, cu ...
Hello, I'm new to the group and glad I found it. I'm a retiree who WAnts to spend at least a year in Ireland. I hope to apply for a Stamp 0 in the fall. I WAs told not to apply until 2 months before I planned on going to Ireland. I WAs wondering whether there is a list of accountants in Ireland with their fees listed that review financial information. Also, I've seen that the requirement for retirees is 50k. Can this be a combination of pension and Thrift Savings Plan (U.S. federal government equivalent to a 401k)?This is what I live off now and the TSP is ...
... live anywhere as our work is freelance type stuff which we could do anywhere (although I need to be able to fly to England about once a month for a few days). So we could basically choose any Area to live in, the most important factor is meeting our son's needs. We do not WAnt to live right in a city.
I have plenty of experience of negotiating the SN education system in England, but am not sure how it all works in Ireland. How easy or feasible would it be to pick a school, move to very near to it, and apply to get into it?
If we made the huge decision to ...
Yes, Kevin, there have been positive changes for the consumer in this Area. When I Did my move a few years ago, it WAs mandated to go through a pet relocation company. Not anymore. Good news for the likes of you 🙂
Wherever you choose to buy your crate be sure it is airline compliant. It should state that on it's labeling/packaging. You can pick one up locally in most large pet stores. Alternatively, take a look online e.g. Amazon, and I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for there.
This forum is amazingly helpful, thanks to everyone for being so specific. I'm moving from Maine in September if the sale of my b&b goes ahead (fingers crossed). Has anyone any advice on a shipper from this Area, or does it matter if they are based elsewhere? Basically any info at all would be hugely appreciated!
Jackie
Jenna,
Yes the 'L' plate is required. Then there's the new 'N' plate (novice), but I'm unsure if you'll need that one. I'm sure the NDLS site explains.
Yes you are restricted, primarily from any motorways.
I'm not sure about the border Area. As you'll technically be driving on a foreign license, I don't think that should be a problem, however from an insurance perspective it may be. The insurer should be able to answer.
... the only ones in our Area who have an immigration desk. We went, and gave them our information. They asked that we have proof of our address, which WAs the only thing besides our passport, proof of insurance with private hospital coverage, and the letter, that they needed. They took all our info and said we had about another month before the the deadline for being fully registered with proof of address. So, we also asked about the whole continuous living thing. We told them we have classes on the weekend every other month or so in Different countries, and w ...
So, after reading various articles and the new rules regarding the reduction in required driving lessons (6 vs 12, with the possible caveat for insurance Discounts after 12 lessons), I'm still unclear on one thing.
Will you be asked to hand over your U.S. Driving Licence when applying for the Learner's Permit? Can you get away with driving without a 'licenced companion' as long as you still have your U.S. licence and are still within the 12-month visitation period?
About the clearest info I've seen on this is that it is a "grey Area", but it would be nearly impossible if you have to hand over your foreign driving licence.
Is there anyone with recent experience that can comment on the process?
Thanks!-Mike
